No you can't get in thru that crack. That's not where the sword is. Evidently you haven't explored all of the houses in Niv or you would know about the "sob". You need to explore everything and everybody in Niv (more than once because as you complete certain actions, other options will open up). You are probably getting a little ahead of yourself by not following clues as you find them. Why don't you try finding what the lever unlocked or opened? You just might find the sword. Regardless, if you follow up on clues as they happen, you will eventually proceed in the game and find items and info as they become available. For instance , the lever you pulled was on the minature pyramid. So doesn't that give you a hint of what you should do next?
