Page 266: I'm pretty sure "but it was one hell of a lot" should be "but it was a hell of a lot", though I'm not sure in this context.
Also, as Sparrow said, this is fairly common slang.
I agreed that it was a common phrase at first, but after Skull gave context I might have to say that I think "a hell of" is the right choice.
Based on this: "but it was one hell of a lot more competent than this,", he was comparing the two, whereas "one hell of a something" usually refers to the quality of a singular object. But I digress, because I didn't come here to debate the grammar choices made.
This is wonderful work, and I can't wait to hold a copy in my hands. I really appreciate everything you're doing.
