Sorry, but I'm not sure at which point exactly you are.
Were you in prison?
If not, if you see the locked door, just walk south out of the cave.
You'll be outta the caves back on the cliffs.
Walk until you see another entrance and go in.
You'll be thrown in prison.
As for point eight: Don't slay the goblins. Play a bit hide and seek with them (It's really easy).
The key: The fragmented key isn't for the door. It's a key to a door to nice little secret.
So, for following locations, try to find the rest of the fragments and the door.
