Organic foods are much harder to produce, and while they may supply us with more nutrients than other foods, they are far less efficient. Considering how much of the world is starving, and how quickly the population is growing, organic foods are a luxury we shouldn't be having. Home grown food has other benefits, namely that it A. Is cheaper for the person growing it and B. Doesn't detract from the market, but the larger scale organic products supply less than they should be able too. At this time, that is OK, but increasing demand for it will cause more groups to turn to organic foods, detracting from the food market. This, in the long run, will cause a global shortage of food.
I know organic food is good for you, and if we were in a post-scarcity economy, I would totally support it, but we aren't. Food is up there with oil and fresh water as one of the scarcest things on the planet right now. Being complacent about it will only lead to humanities downfall.
This is why I'm all for the 'lab grown burger' idea, the creation of meat in laboratories for the purposes of consumption. Many are against it, but it may be one of the only things we can do to produce food fast enough to feed the human population in the future.
You know, either that, or population control. In the style of "You can't have kids, you don't meet X criteria.", which sounds rather too vindictive and controlling to be good for society.
