Games these days are a lot easier compared to how they were in the early-mid 90s. Back then, you had to beat the game using a certain amount of lives before you lose, and have to start over from the beginning. (Disregard Sonic 3's save system.) Every game I played for the Sega Genesis was incredibly difficult. Which means I stopped playing them pretty quick because my patience can get pretty thin sometimes. Once games started incorporating the ability to save when ever you want, that made games easier because you could just go back 3 minutes and try again. Though, because games started becoming 5 or 10 hour experiences, if not longer, saving becomes a must because you'd never want to die at the final boss and have to replay the whole game.

But games have difficulty options, so you can play however you like. Insanity difficulty in Mass Effect is incredibly difficult. It's a little beyond my capabilities as a gamer. But then again I'm not a hardcore gamer either. I play my games for the experiences, not the challenge.
