For me around 1990 to 2000 was probably my favorite years of gaming. I was born in 1991 but there are some games that came out the previous year that I loved. Super Nintendo is my primary reason for loving these years, plus Starcraft came out, my absolute favorite blizzard game, and Diablo 2 right on the edge there at the year 2000, also a good game.
I just feel like the Super Nintendo (and the Genesis too, to a lesser extent) had some of the most fun and well designed games ever made. I will admit that the ability for cutscenes and storyline was not as high at the time (although God, look at Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger, those beauties!), and graphics were not as high definition, but in addition to being more "simple" they were just designed so well. Games today sometimes look quite pretty, until the graphics glitch and you see someones teeth from the inside of their head... or you realize that the game is just simply not very fun to play.
Oh yeah, and DINK CAME OUT at that time. Absolutely loved Dink to death as a kid (ok, I admit it, I still do), I'm so glad my dad found it and downloaded it or I would probably have never played it before.
