Any vegetarians on board? Thoughts?

I'm not a vegetarian, but I've been thinking about trying out a vegetarian diet for a while (like, say, 6 months, just to see how much I really need/desire meat).

Why? I'm not against using animals for food as such. However, if you eat meat, I think you should also be willing to do it yourself -- that is, slaughter cows/pigs/chickens/whatever. Those things are just like dogs and cats and no less deserving of living. I'm not at all sure I would be willing to cut the jugular of some hapless cow with a long knife in cold blood as it stares at me imploringly, or live with the bad conscience that would give me. Wouldn't it be much nicer to let Bluebell live and just stick to macaroni?

Those are the kind of things I've been thinking. Other than going vegan, I would actually like to try to slaughter that cow. Maybe it feels like nothing when you do it for a good reason, I don't know. The problem with that is that I can't really think of a simple way to get the opportunity; They don't hold tours for that. (It would be a super obnoxious enterprise, anyway)
