It's their niche market.

I'm no game historian but Nintendo didn't used to be kiddy back when they dominated the console market with NES, SNES and Gameboy. Consoles back then were distinct from PCs. Games were on the Nintendo or the PC, not both, and consoles had special catridges. SNES games were even sometimes technologically superior to PC games! However, my impression is when Sony and later Microsoft came into the console market they started to make consoles that were effectively just game optimised PCs with PC parts and CDs etc. This meant that game developers could easily produce titles that work on both PCs and Sony/Microsoft consoles, a much more lucrative opportunity than just producing a game that only owners of a certain console could play and buy. Nintendo seemed to want to stay sort of unique so they decided to go into all the sorts of weird stuff they do now, in order to remain distinct from PC gaming and have their own market. No one wants to create PC gaming type games for the Nintendo when they can have a larger market by producing them for PC and the other consoles.
