Here are some alternatives that should work in English (not sure how translating them into Dutch will be though

1.) "To live in hearts we left behind. It is not to die."
2.) "To live in hearts we left behind is not dying."
3.) "To live in hearts we left behind is not to die"
I'm sure there are other ways to say it. It is only the word "for" that causes this sentence "To live in hearts we left behind. It is not to die for." to mean something cynical rather then inspiring.
