Ok, not to be the one to point out the obvious here, but you all do realise that the Caucus mountains are much closer to India then Europe? Our race originated there, so I would be surprised if some native Indians WEREN'T white.
Personally, I'm a true copper red, with hazel eyes, and freckled white and red skin.
@schapper: As a westerner, I have to actually agree with duckhater that the belief that all Indians are dark hared/skinned is a common stereotype. I hadn't even thought about it enough to realise I believed in this stereotype until this thread brought my attention to it. Also: note he said its a "common" stereo type. It's not stereotyping if it is thusly qualified. It is only a stereotype if it is supposed to apply to all of a given set of people.
@skull: How do we know? CONTEXT. We usually only talk about one or the other at a time. Or we qualify it: Eastern Indian for people from India, American Indian for Native Americans.
