Because people are the same species as you. It's instinct: most animals don't eat their own kind. However, a great deal of animals will eat other animals. Know why? They're delicious! Personally, I love nothing better than a nice, rare, practically mooing prime rib. *drool*
Actually, it's self-preservation. Animals are food for things higher up on the food chain. Humans aren't higher on the food chain than humans, because we're the same... so we don't eat each other.
