Control, eh? Well, I don't really see it as a case of control, but simply a matter of most humans enjoying meat and deciding to eat it. If you peer on your local butcher, I don't think he'll be screaming "AAaaarrrr! I thirst for blood!", but rather "Oh golly, I think the customers would enjoy a helping of beef!" 
Seiously though, you'll just have to accept the fact that we humans will always be eating meat. There will be no vegan crusades. If you pity the animals, spare them; if you view the consumption as a typical act of nature, chow down.
