ExDeathEvn, nice to see your OK! We down here got, like, 50-150 extra students coming here from Christchurch, and my mum works in the office, sorting everyone out! 
She's a bit stressed as you can imagine, but it's cool to be making a positive effect on the problem.
Hope you find a place to stay (assuming I'm reading what I think I am...) and if not, just ask a fellow kiwi. I'm sure there are plenty of us willing to take people in.
