I know it was in the Lion King - well, heared it was, never saw the movie, but did hear the song - but I knew that years before Lion King ever aired, since I was in Kenia once and all the folks around there said it.
When we got lost in the outback and finally saw a local bus, and indeed managed to stop it, and asked for a lift, the busdriver said: "Yeah, sure, but first we have to fix the gear since it broke again - and that's actually the reason we stopped, not to give you a ride", we said: "Hakuna matata!"
BTW: it means 'no problem'.
