Nice, I like them, although I do agree in that I like an actual background better than a picture, but I still like it. I'd give it a 6.5.

Btw, if anyone is finding it hard to make status bars or inventory screens, I released a file called 'status bar and inventory layouts', which makes it a lot easier - but only if you have GIMP or photoshop, as they support layers and each element is separated into their own layers, to make it easy to edit... You can edit the layouts in paint if you really want to, as I provided a BMP version, but it will be more difficult, because it won't be editable in layers.
As an example of it's use - I created my status bar for my Dmod(The Dark Avilan), using my layout, and it only took me 15 minutes in photoshop. I also created an inventory screen, which also took me about 15 minutes to make, so that's 30 minutes all up.
