Let the rivers run free,
Leave my lovely Louise.
For she is all to me,
Give me nothing else please.
My daughter, my daylight,
The last memory of darling wife,
Leave her forever in my sight,
For else I'd be in strife.
Don't kill her! Take me!
A dagger, a knife, a sword!
But with a pen, I write to thee...
Take my life with your sword;
But leave my lovely Louise.
Kill me and leave her alive
Cut me up, throw me to the seas,
So to Heaven I can surely drive.
