The only thing I can advise that Kyle already didn't say is that remember that a story that isn't completely new or has been used already is not necessarily bad. You can always use a very basic story as the main plot, and eventually when the time passes, make up more and more stuff into it, and in no time you find yourself having written a story that would need two Pilgrim's Quests to fill it.
