If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
That's stamping hardness. I think he means literally editing the hardness of a particular tile.
To do so, go into hard mode 'H' select the tile you want to edit (on the actual screen), and press 'Q'. You draw the hardness with your mouse. Hold ctrl or shift to draw different kinds of hardness eg. low hardness/mystery hardness. Delete the hardness by clicking on it again. You can edit the brush size in settings->options.
It's not really advisable though. Some tiles share the same hardness so when you're editing one tile, you could potentially end up screwing up other tiles without meaning to.
