Well, I could well be looking at Sephiroth through rose-tinted specs, given that I last played FF7 about 10 years ago. He's pretty highly regarded though. Also, Kefka was amazing.
I recently finished Mass Effect and it is certainly an excellent game. Currently 7-8 hours into ME2 and it's quickly evident how much more polish has been applied. It's a truly awesome game, with a combat system that now rivals Gears of War. They seem to have dumbed down the traditional RPG aspects somewhat, but it still shines through as a great example of the genre.
