I would like to make this Dmod myself, but I don't know how to even get started. Basically, it would be a sort of parody of Pokemon, with you being able to catch things like Boncas, Pillbugs, Slayers, Dragons, etc, and make them fight your battles for you, either via actual player control, or an AI.

This idea is totally up for grabs, if someone wants it, but I would like to try my hand at this as well. It just seems like such a daunting task, is all. I was wondering if someone could help me at least get started? I'm relatively good at making pixel art, and I'm a little familiar with lingo such as 'sprite,' 'call,' etc, but I know very little about programming.

There's a Pokémon-like minigame in FIAT.

You'll have to unlock all secrets to find it, tough

Then again, there's a cheat in the downloads section somewhere that unlocks all secrets.
