I'v looked everywhere for a spike to use his shell to put the fire out and can't find one to kill, where is the bleeping spike hiding? Also, I have yet to get a riddle of any kind and no dragons are talking to me - what's up? I need to get back to the normal world soon, my eyes hurt.

You have to kill the evil priest (now s stone monster) before you can get back to the normal world. There is a single spike in the shadow world though, it's where the the gold heart near the begining was in the nomral world. There's a slightly hidden path though the trees to get there.
