I defeated the wizard with his clone machines and then the next place I ended up is this stream that I am wading around in. How do I get out of the stream?

Ah, a problem with the Demo. You aren't supposed to go here after beating Pencilhead... but you do. Never mind.
You have probably done nearly everything in the demo, apart from (possibly) Churnblade the Ravagers dungeon.
That lies to the west...
