I cannot open 'edit' in DFarc.
Changed the name of the file but that didn't help.
Suggestions please.

I should add that the opening instructions are for DFARC2 - this is in 2007.
It's now 2013 and I have DFARC3. The game installs but when you try to open it, it says it's not found.
Has anyone played it recently? Have you had similar problems? Did you manage to get it to work?

I've had it happen to me before, I think it's just a windows 7 problem.

(edit)
When I open the game with DFARC it says 'dir not found'.
Clicking 'edit' brings up a black screen with the message: 'Did you enter a bad command? Game dir does not exist or is missing files".

I believe it might have something to do with the length of the name; the number of characters has to be less than 8 (?) or 7 (?)..and no spaces. So when I downloaded I changed the name - to comply hopefully, but that didn't seem to work.

That's assuming you are using windows 7.

Works fine for me. However, I assume the problem mentioned is with the weird folder name? ("thelostamulet v2") Have you renamed it to something else, e.g. "lostamu"?

Post-editing scoundrel! Yes you have.

If so, check out if the lost amulet folder has all the files it's supposed to inside. Graphics folder, sound folder, story folder, tiles folder, dink.dat, dink.ini, etc....

1. Select The lost amulet dmod.
2. Go to edit, then Browse Selected Dmod directory.
3. Right click anywhere in the white space and select Properties.
4. In the General categorie, the first option is the name. Change it to thelostamulet.
5. Click ok. It should ask if you want to apply the changes to all folders or just that one. Click just that one. (Or however it words it.). You've done this, right?

Kenji, those are the instructions that don't seem to work for DFARC v3.
NO white space to click, edit-> browse etc doesn't come up. Maybe it did in DFARC2.

The possible solution suggested by Scratcher sounds better. I'll try that; maybe I wasn't shortening the name enough.
Apologies for the post-edit lol.
Thanks guys. I'll be back with the good news I hope.

Not good news I'm afraid.
I changed the DMOD name to 'lostamu', it installed ok. Trying to run it though, brought up the same messages.
scratcher, you mentioned a weird folder name..does that have a bearing on its failure to open? I kinda doubt that. btw I see CC2 has a long file name with underscores. It opens no problem.
And yes, all the files seem to be present in the folder that was created on installation.
Also, I simply dragged the DMOD on to DFARC to install. That shouldn't have been a problem right? it's just that I have in the past, been able to open and install by double clicking. Now it asks me what program I need to open it. And of course that's not listed along with the other established programs(adobe, etc).

EDIT!!
Yes indeed. It WAS the folder name. It had to be the same as the DMOD name I'd changed it to: 'lostamu'
NOW it works.
(smiling) thanks a million guys!
Maybe this will help others now to open it.

Ah, you renamed the .dmod file? I was talking about the folder name, e.g. you should rename ...\Dink Smallwood\thelostamulet v2\ into something simpler, like ...\Dink Smallwood\lostamu\

As you say, though, weird folder names don't seem to be a problem on current versions of Dink/DFArc. I can run the Lost Amulet just fine, for example. However, anything over 8 letters and with weird symbols/spaces USED to cause issues in the past, so it's still worth a shot...

This is curious. The dmod installs just like any other for me. Perhaps the download was corrupted, somehow? If you haven't yet, you should definitely try to re-download the dmod.

Yeah it crossed my mind that I needn't have changed the DMOD name, just the folder name. It works regardless.
But the folder name shortened was the key to the solution.
And yes I had downloaded it again (twice before actually) and deleted the other created folders and copies of the DMODs.
