Dink and the Bonca

I finished Dink and the Bonca yesterday, which was a short and simple but fun little romp.

I did enjoy it quite a bit but thought you should know Dinkkiller that after I got the ice sword I could not put out the fire. I don't know if I was doing something wrong if it was a glitch, but I ended up cheating to get past the fire. I did already go down and see the town was on fire and found the sidequest, but I don't think there was anything else left I had to do. I would attack the fire with the sword but nothing happened.

Thanks for the DMOD Dinkkiller and looking forward to The Quest for Death.

It's possible that when I fixed the ice sword animation I somehow messed up the global that's needed to put out the fire with the ice sword. I'll look into it.

Most of the issues I remember from DatB revolved around that dang ice sword. And yet I never encounter them myself. It's weird.

Otherwise, glad you enjoyed it

Yeah it would appear I broke something when I updated to v1.03. I need to rewrite the script for the fire, should take like 10 minutes. Already fixed a few other small things as I've gone through the game. If I find anything else I'll fix those too then upload v1.04

Fixed it using a compare_weapon script (something I wasn't aware of back in 2009) instead of using the global, which stopped working for some reason. Time to upload v1.04 then

v1.04 is uploaded. Let's see if this one takes less time than v1.03 (9 days) to be approved

Others have mentioned problems with the game freezing after getting the Ice Sword.
The problem I'm having is when Dink wants to return to Matridge at the sign; it's an orange star that is supposed to teleport Dink back. (It says "Take me back to Matridge, Dink" which is in itself a bit weird.)
The screen goes into 'negative' mode - black and white...not a total fade.
I waited and listened to the tune, which I figured might have been intentional: listen to this nice piece of music (and it IS nice too!) -- but then nothing happens.
I see the version I am playing is v1.08 -I assume it's a later version than 1.04 which was supposed to be bug-free now.
I actually downloaded it again..and now I have two D&the Boncas in my DFArc. One will open, the other won't.
Any ideas?

edit: I downloaded Ultimate Cheat. I think that will get me out..not sure to where though lol.

1.08 is the version of the Dink engine, not the DMod.

I finished it without a problem in Freedink; you could try that, too.

ahh I see...and yes I just finished it.
(after working out how to use the 'warp')
Nice little cliffhanger at the end. To be continued perhaps?

Dinkkiller is working on a new dmod, which is meant to be the second of three parts. Dink and the Bonca being the first part. So yes, it shall be continued.

Yeah, I've always heard of problems with the part right after getting the ice sword, and I've never encountered any of them myself, so I have absolutely no idea what the problem is. Surely my scripting can't possibly be wrong

And yes, I have part 2 of 3 in the works, currently titled "The Quest for Death", but at the moment the project is on hold. I came up with a very interesting idea a few days ago for a sort of mini game that will be interesting to figure out how to script. I really should get back to working on the D-Mod.

Hey, it might not happen. I need to find some new inspiration and come up with some amazing new ideas so that my D-Mod can stand out.

Inspiration is always important, but a DMOD/game can stand out without amazing new ideas. If you give it your own touch of personality and don't just try to copy everyone else' ideas, then it will stand out naturally. There's always that touch of good gameplay and storyline you can add to make it better, of course, but I think especially personality is important. It's a big part of what made Moon Child an enjoyable DMOD to play, despite it not having much on the lines of coherent storyline and having no real battles. =)

Ah, I sorta just made it up as I went along. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. That makes me happy.
