It shouldn't matter as long as the original author consents to it.

I would say it would be fine anyway, even if they're not around maybe send them an e-mail saying what you're doing, and that they have credit for the series. Maybe submit it saying that you made it as a possible finish to the series/game, and that it isn't the official ending.
I recon dont be lazy and start your own - leave others dmods to the person that started it because you arent them and it will never be the same as what they would have done. If you are clever enough to finish someone elses work you are clever enough to have made your own - Mah 3 cents worth!

~(sigh)~
I have no interest in completing someone else's project.

I am not clever. Your 3¢ is my command.. I shall never again ask a question
here without your permission. Unless I have more than 3¢

was just a comment - how i feel about others trying to make someone elses story/ dmod - sorry it wasn't meant to upset anyone
*sigh* indeed!
I think the path to greatness is to surpass our teachers
not to follow them blindly

Personally, I don't think people should finish other peoples' projects. Especially without permission. And even if the author has given permission, he still probably doesn't feel that good about it, deep inside.
I think people should write fanfiction about abandoned D-Mod series, such as CC3 and Necromancer.

It's an interesting one.
I don't really think people should consider finishing a d-mod series created by an absent author. I think the question that should always be asked is whether the would be-creator could live up to the original author's style. Who is able to take on Necromancer and release a file worthy of the name? Not many.
If the original author gives his permission though, I don't see why people shouldn't give it their best shot.

Right, like how Predator is working on CC3.

I like that idea, and it makes me wonder what about writing a fan fiction D-Mod? I mean a D-Mod that's a spinoff of someone else's D-Mod. It could even be a spinoff of an unfinished D-Mod series. It wouldn't be finishing the series, just telling a different author's story about it. I like the idea of a shared world, where several authors use the same backdrop to tell their stories, like with the Cthulhu Mythos.
