its not needed cos a little later in the game you get storm magic and dues-strike magic, which are even more powerful. but having thunderstrike magic is helpful in getting across scorpions and those colour changing dinos, do remember to save up enough gold to buy that 430000 or 50000 weapon, they are very helpful and more effective than any magic (especially the 50000 death star) without them its almost immpossible to beat the dragon.
