Reply to green voice in my head--scorpions and skeletons

I redownloaded the game and it's working alot better; BUT! I'm in NIV now and I have to go to the desert and fight scorpions and skeletons. My strength is: 34 and the same for majic. Fireball and water don't hurt them + I have my clawsword. Is there a trick to killing them, without getting killed in the process? I CAN REALLY USE SOME HELP. Thanx.
