I'm pretty sure I was using a 'sun' lamp... I guess I could try turning 'shadeless' on as well though. I ended up just loading the image into the GIMP (also trying to learn that... LoL.) and applying a blur filter, and some kind of filter that made it tileable. So, the concrete tiles are good to go!
I'm still interested in getting Blender to do what I wanted it to though, if nothing else, just for scholarship, so I'll try to screw around with that a bit more tomorrow maybe. Today is "Completely Redo All Of The Scripting That I've Done Already Because When I First Started I Didn't Realize 1.08 Had Added User-Defined Functions" day. *Groan* Well, that and it's extremely sloppy, and I've figured out a better way to do just about everything. Ha.
