I dunno about in-jokes in the SOBiverse... but once I went down the path of making a sequel to SOB I would put in a few references... although I remember putting in references in SOB to Isle of Croth, or some such thing...

Back story abounds in my head in SOBiverse - I think it helps to have that when making a story type thing, be it game, movie - whatever. But I know there's nothing too deep in SOB or PQ. Most of it was 'borrowed' from many sources ... both contemporary and mythological, with a bit of corruption (like change a letter, add a letter).

I do re-play the games every so often (usually when someone is stuck or has found some weird bug) and get reminded of all the back story and "depth" that is relevant to me. It makes me smile - especially Story 4 in SOB. I felt like having a go at religions etc.
