i believe you have to build a fire to fart your way out of the chamber. there has been much confusion over this part, and i myself used an old bug to proceed through this area (which was corrected with one of the several bug fixes) but basically just find al the sticks (3). you cannot go upstairs. this was supposed to be some kind of astonishing brain child of redink1 but... it looks like garbage. one stick is hiding at the bottom of the screen, out of sight by a wall or something. just walk around till you pick it up.
