If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
I wrote this post because I hadn't been to many other boards in such a long time and it came as a shock about how hostile they can be.
As I said, that's what I like about this place, newcomers are not treated like outcasts, unless they act like a complete jerk right away. And even then it usually takes several consecutive flames before people start hating that person. Here, you just make a couple of posts and you already have the same status as a long established member on some other board. You're also generally treated with respect to right to begin with. I didn't realize how rare this was until recently.
It seems just about only way to gain get a little respect on these well established boards to actually accomplish something in their realm that most of them could never do, or just really impress them. Like make a great mod or come up with awesome original trick for a game site, write some kicka$$ music for a music board, or a story for some kind fiction group. That is about the only way to gain the respect of most of these 1am3rs. Although, anything I do that's impressive to them will only be because I like to do it, not just to win their approval.
I know from experience, because I once made an unpopular comment on a Morrwind (egads! I just said the forbidden word!) board (this is not the board I was originally refering to). I said something like the 36 Sermon's of Vivec were complete bu1$h33t. Of course, I was immediately pounced on, but I defended myself quite well by researching parts of the game and giving many examples of the numerous falsehoods disguised as cryptic truths, contridicting statements, and knowledge of human nature. Since these guys were hardcore fans, it really won some respect. The only reason I did this was because I felt it as a challenge that I could win and because I really loved the Elder Scrolls world and its rich history. It was actually kind of funny, we were debating the whole thing like a bunch of historians over the true meaning of a real piece of ancient literature.
So, now I'm fairly accepted at that particular board, but it is still nowhere as nice as it is here. Despite the lack of volume of posts, this still is the greatest board I've been to.
