If I'm understanding you, when you use the <A HREF=""> tag, yes, the whole address has to go between the two quotation marks. It doesn't necessarily mean you have to do a lot of typing. If you're viewing the web page you want to link to, you can just copy the address from the address bar, go back to your message, then paste it between the quotation marks. It really doesn't take that long.

I suppose it benefits the receiver. It's much easier to click a link than to have to copy an address from a post then paste it into your address bar. Or maybe I'm just lazy.
