The pentagram is a five pointed circle, the Star of David is a hexagram.
One of the major aspects of this game is the magical symbolism. The pentagram symbolizes the four classical elements, fire water earth and air, under the fifth element of spirit or aether. (Thus, spirit rules over the physical.) Inverted, it is symbolic of the material plane ruling over the spiritual.
The hexagram is symbolic of the phrase, 'As above, so below'. This means, that which is of the heavens is also of the earth. Or, more literally, the larger picture is reflected by the smaller. Small things make up the larger things and whatnot. There's a lot more symbolism in the game than just that.
(Also, the pentagram isn't Jewish. It's pagan in nature, as is the hexagram, it was just appropriated for use in ritual and spiritual uses.)
