Realistically speaking, assuming that a spirit/soul is an energy construct, ridding of electricity will do nothing, as everything radiates some form of energy, and assuming it's sentient, it will evade all attempts to capture it, as spirits can move through physical objects. (Being non-physical entities tends to do that.)
(As an added fun tidbit, the time around halloween/samhain is generally considered the most active time of the year that spirits are out and about, due to the border between the spirit world and the physical world being at its thinnest, according to eclectic writings.)
