I am not sure they were in the same moment. You can't react fast enough to take a picture of a lightning bolt when you see it, so photographs of lightning are taken by setting up your camera for a long exposure (say, 30 seconds) during a thunderstorm. So, while they must have been quite close together, it might not actually have looked like that to an eyewitness.
