Early-Mid 90's definitely count for me because of all the great Super Nintendo and Sega titles being released around that time. Basically just the 90's in general felt like the golden age of great games to me. The games now are more impressive visually and technically but seem to be suffering in places where it matters the most: fun. Recent indie games try but usually (not always) fail to emulate the joy that many of the greatest older games were made from.
Not saying great games aren't still being released; I'm super excited for the next Smash Bros. and games like Super Mario 3d World are newer and still absolutely amazing. Not to mention amazing RPGs such as Persona 3 and 4, Final Fantasy 9 and 10, and Dragon Quest 8 which all came out after the 90's had already ended. So while it seems like there are fewer great games these days, when a particularly amazing one is released it is sometimes good enough to shake the world.
So... I guess the 90's have me for QUANTITY of great games being released. And the 2000's have me for QUALITY of great games being released. 2010 onward has been too short to make much of a judgment on yet, and the new generation of consoles is just starting to be truly established. But there has been some noteworthy titles and some noteworthy ones in the work. (I hope the next Batman game is as incredible as it looks.) I have a good feeling about this decade of games.
