RTS: Command and Conquer Series (up to Generals, or in other words, The First Decade; I would recommend Red Alert out of all of them), Age of Mythology, Age of Empires Series, Empire Earth (the first), Axis and Allies
If you want to try out some stranger games (mixed genre), I would suggest: Black and White (RTS elements), Project Zomboid (RPG elements; being developed in similar manner to Minecraft), Space Station 13 (RPG elements), Cortex Command (again, in development), Kerbal Space Program (development)
