correction: It seems I have upset binirit and provably others as well, so let me restate what I meant more clearly:
On a purely medical note, a baby has three basic stages of development:
1. Until 40 days (not four months as I wrongly wrote earlier) after conception, an embryo is still considered not "alive"
2. From 40 days after conception, until the baby is born, it is alive but not human. I said before: "abortion should be permitted only if there is a direct threat to the life of the mother." let me clarify this. If a woman was raped and was in danger of an emotional "death" because of the child, there wouldn't be a problem with abortion. I mentioned later: "it is like an animal and the same moral laws apply." If there was an animal with the power to emotionally destroy a person and it had latched onto a person, this would be a "direct threat to the [emotional] life of the mother" and could be dealt with accordingly.
3. When a baby is born it acquires the same human status as it's mother and the rights of all humans.
Sorry if this still offends anybody.
