I don't think a dedicated "Hi, I'm new!" thread is necessary. People can make their own threads if they like, or they can just slot into the community like a banana into a hammock. Let them decide how they want to play it.

Also, the links you've provided simply direct people to other stickies. Pretty pointless, all things considered.
