The meaning behind killing 100 pillbugs is a simple measurement of the apprentice's discipline and perseverance. Repeating the same task endlessly, training in the smallest of things to reach the highest level. It is said that each of the 100 pillbugs also represent an aspect or bad habit of the apprentice that he or she must shed in order to attain greatness. Every punch or slice that connects with the pillbug is therefore symbolic and a necessity for growth in the ninja arts. The first great ninja master who used this type of training was said to have shed a tear for every pillbug he killed, until eventually he had no tears left to spill and could become detached to emotions such as empathy, sadness or even love. Becoming a ninja requires the highest of sacrifice. The loss of self.

Fortunately for Dink though, killing the pillbugs was just for fun. I doubt he felt a single thing as he happily whacked them all back to pillheaven.
