Magic, a force to be reckoned with, can manifest in many different ways. Water magic, a fireball, a lightning bolt, etc. Methods of creating different magical abilities vary from magician to magician, but once a spell and method for casting it have been written to page, it can be taught to any magic-capable person with ease.
One spell which no-one but it's creator know of is the ability to cast Hellfire, a super-charged ball of crispyness that singes all it touches on it's path, without stopping. So frightened of this spell was it's creator that he hid in a cave, but once he started running out of food he decided to sell it to whoever he came across on his way back to town.
Fortunately for him, Dink came along before the man even had to leave the cave. For whatever reason however, he decided to make it his personal residence once Dink finally left, probably because he had no home otherwise. Typical fudgemuffin nubcake.
