I had thought that clearing the monsters with that crazy rabbit would release the orange key, but I still can't find it. Help!!

You need to blow up the blob (or glob or something like that) machine. There's a note about it just west of the scientist and the machine is south of the note.

And to get the bombs, you need to go down to the prison level and go to the area where the wizard is. Then head left through the passage with the spiky bush thing.
