New Dmod manager app... Maybe?
I was thinking about something... A new application for me to make.
I use Multimedia Fusion, a porgram that allows you to rapidly create applications (and games too). It also has some online functionality (as far as uploading & downloading files via FTP).
Now, I was thinking... I'd like to make a Dmod database application... One that contains a list of available Dmods in the database, and an option to view some information about it, show a screenshot, download it and go to its info page...
Next to that, people would be able to add their own dmods to the database. Info, links + screenshots would be stored on some webspace (that allows FTP access... important!).
I could maybe make it categorizable in popularity, rating and game category (romp, demo etc). Comments would probably go to far for me at the moment, but it's possible too (IF the app uses a good FTP server)...
Now, I'd like to know what you think of this.
Will it be useful? Or worthless?
Do you have any tips or ideas?
Will is be used enough for me to try and create it?
And: Does anyone want to create a subdomain with FTP support when this works out (I'd test on my own webspace first, of course)?
Or other support if this is a good idea?
You might know me as the 'lazy person who never finished DinkCreator', but that app never worked out, mainly because I found out about Easy DinkC. This would be something I'd really try.

Here is already such a database, and here is the upload form.
View some information = download page, on download pages are also screenshots. Categorizable in popularity is not yet possible here, but rating and category is available. Comments... well, we've got reviews and of course the file discussion and the news post (I still think there should be a link from the d/l page to the file discussion).
In short, sorry to burst your bubble, but I think we have all that is needed right here

Yep, I agree. I think it's wiser to think about extra features you want in generation 9 of TDN.
Yep, I realized this is unnecessary for Dmods. Gonna use the ideas for a freeware/shareware game database/managemt system though.

I like the ftp engine bit.
I agree that TDN is an awesome resource and the most complete, but I often come to find a dmod to play, then spend a long period reading posts.
This is good for the soul, but some nights it would be cool to just grab a romp, and play it before bedtime. By the time I am done in the forums, it's 2am and I'm stuck awake until I get tired again at 5.30.
Now if only we could eliminate all the courtesy, kindness and occasional controversy here, I wouldn't be so tempted to stick around.
Hmph.
