How-tos for a computer granny
I'm a relatively newbie of RPGs. And 9 years ago (thereabouts), after I gave birth to my youngest son, I downloaded DINK. I had time in my hands, so I explored the world of RPGs. It was something novel for me. (I am a storyteller in my country - documenting stories of our legends and myths - using just pen and paper. Word processing in my honky-tonk computer is the only thing I am quite capable of). Three years after that, while my children and I were struggling to overcome a painful separation from their father, I discovered my three-year-old boy Dinking and hitting friend and foe alike. Although a lot of computer blood was spilled - it was cathartic (DINKING,I mean) for all of us.
Again, years after I got DINK, a lot has happened. I have time in my hands and checked out DINK again. I found out about DMODs - wonderful! Now, I'm running out of DMODS to play! And I'm not much into reviews (I can understand the painstaking effort and frustration that goes into making one)and I don't have the heart to critique even if it's very much needed by the authors. I just feel that I am not the right person yet. I'll wait until I get to make and finish my own DMOD(which might take a long time, really).
I downloaded most of the TMODs and read all the tutorial texts - I'm still figuring out most of the inputs and letting my brain cells soak it up slowly. Very difficult for a 40-year-old stay-at-home mom with no knowledge of computer programming. Plus my ancient computer...
Anyway, I am just sharing my thoughts...

Don't worry, most dmods get the reviews they deserve (though, this is not always the case). Stick to stuff in the 7, 8, and 9 range, and you should find a lot of quality stuff. Though, if you ever want to play something horrible for a laugh, try out low rated stuff.
Ah, stick with it... DMODing can stimulate the brain... and cause hair loss. There are authors as young as 12 and one (maybe two) over 60...

I'm glad I'm not the only one over 40 playing DMODS. My son loves it, and he's 9. It's more difficult to explain to him some of the words in some Rated R DMODs,though. It's not so bad, really...reason 1: English is just our second language so it doesn't come out that foul at all. reason 2: I'd rather my kids learn the meaning of some "not-so-reverent" words from me, so i can contextualize them.
Thank you SimonK for the reply and the "age-assurance".

And thanks, Striker for the encouragement and words of advice. I have played most,if not all of the DMODs here. And I love PQ and Once-in-a-Lifetime. And the others are not so bad even at 4 or 5 (as long as there are no major crashes).
