Why Dink...
Well, I googled '"RPG maker" forum' to see if I could find things which people had made (illegally) with it. Anyhow, I found this intsead, which may be enlightening.

Of course, there are other ways to make RPGs, but Dink must be one of the simplest and least costly.
On an unrelated note, I find it disturbing how well google's spider has poked it's way into forums. When I googled "Milo Bones", google came up with three references from various messageboards. I find that creepy.
