For whatever reason, I can't play the game. It crashes on startup, as soon as I click to launch it. Screen goes black, hangs there a while, then back to desktop.

I'm on Windows 10 and it USED to work. I was using 1.4.7.
Then one day it just suddenly didn't. I downloaded the latest version and reinstalled. Still nothing.

Which version are you using specifically? If you're trying to run Dink HD it might be worth changing over to FreeDink and the DFArc Launcher instead.

If you run it from the command line, it should show debug info before it exits thus allowing you to figure out what's wrong.

Nope. Nothing.
I ran it from the command line and it just exits out the same way, and nothing in the command window to say why. Nothing in the log file in the folder either.

Yes, Im using Dink Smallwood HD. Or trying too. Like I said, it used to work fine, but all of the sudden it doesn't.

Should I just download FreeDink and put that in with this or download the old version of Dink Smallwood?

Yes, Freedink will work immediately if you download just the exe and put it in next to your existing one. Don't bother with 1.08 or earlier as they run like crap on Windows 10.

So install Dink Smallwood HD, then drop the Freedink exe into the folder with it and play?

Yeah that should work, put Freedink.exe next to the existing dink.exe and it'll work. I just realised that to get debug output from the command line you have to run it with the "-debug" option. It places everything in a file called log.txt.

There's an install video guide in the Tutorials thread if that helps at all.

Unfortunately, that still didn't get it to write anything in the log file or give me any information on why it won't start.

A shame, ide really like to actually use Dink HD, since it looks so much better than Freedink, but at least Freedink actually works and loads the game.

It must be crashing before it's able to write to the file, I guess. Do you have an Nvidia graphics card at all? Some have mentioned that it has caused them problems. Apart from Redink's fancy shadows as well as autosave, Freedink is almost identical to Dink "HD" in terms of features.
