SOB story 3 - cannot kill wiz ap!

I'm stuck at the end of Story 3 in SOB: It's impossible to kill the wizard aprentice and get to the magic stone! The 3 ghosts go down, but not the wiz... I've tried everything, but nothing bites on him. I know I missed some magic in story 1, like hellfire. Maybe that's why, but I dont know? So: HOW DO I GET THAT fellow?? GREAT dmod BTW!
As far as I can remember, there is no trick to beating him. Maybe your stats are too low?
