Computer Go Boom
After all the time I spent working on the problems with my dad's computer, it was mine that crashed.
And being unfixable, I lost everything and had to start anew.So I have finally reached the point of starting a new dmod.I have the story in my mind and I am fixing errors as I go along.Maybe I'll finish it, maybe I won't.But I intend to have fun along the way. That is the point, isn't it?

Indeed.
I should go backup my stuff that's on my parents' computer too... It has been running without any crashes for almost three years now and it's starting to act weird.
Well, good luck with your new Dmod. Can you tell us a bit about it? Does it involve beavers again?

Thats one of the worst things that can happen Carrie even more so for you since you keep so much stuff you make and download on it.
Just remember that anything you "make" on a computer you should have saved both on the hard drive and on a separate thing like a floppy or rewritable CD.
So did you buy a new PC?
Sincerely,
The Vault Dweller

Hi Carrie, Sorry to hear that you have lost all your your work. As a wannabe musician, I am protective of my work. I have lost some 'impossible to recapture" moments from e.g. leaving my cassette on the desk and degaussing my monitor.
Could you tell me what crashed on your computer, from a users point of view? I have had 2 of my clients recently say their hard-drives have slowly crashed over the last couple of weeks. They both compared it to starting a dying motorcycle, sometimes it would boot on the first or second go, then gradually became 4 or 5 failed bootups.
I have a weird fetish for documenting things and looking for patterns.
mm.

Well, my computer had been acting fine really but I decided 'updating root certificates' would be nifty.I'm not sure that had anything to do with it though.Plus, at the time, my anti-virus program was over a year behind on updates.
Anyways, after the root certificates thing, I decided to head on over to Microsoft for an update and after that shut the computer down.
The next morning it wouldn't load the windows program and instead would load the 'it's safe to shut your computer down now' screen.I attempted to get in on safe mode but the same thing happened. So I tried to get in through prompt only. But it would mention something about 'wininit.exe' and then a bunch of letters...f g h j k ...or something and then stop.Hitting any button would restart.I also noted that 'ctrl alt del' only needed to be done to restart as well.
My hard drive was apparently undamaged, so the tech reloaded the win98 program and I'm back.
The End
EDIT: I also had attempted to do the win98 reload myself but it had to do the scan first.
What I discovered in that was that almost all my directories had errors and many things were renamed things like 'appl.ic.ation'.

sounds like a rootkit to me. I consider myself an uber computer user, but 2 of my drives have died. And yes i feel your pain. I think i was depressed for like 2 weeks straight. I was writing a book... gone. All my art, gone. etc etc.
