I trust you when it comes to English, of course, but are you really sure "but it was one hell of a lot more competent than this" is a proper sentence? Dunno, seems wrong to me somehow. Never heard it used like that. If it was "but it was one hell of a lot more competent show than this", then it'd make some sense to me. Of course, it'd still be wrong since it'd make no sense to compare a game and a TV show in a sentence like that, which is why I'd have used "a" instead of "one". But... if you say it makes sense.
