I had a friend come over earlier, and he introduced me to the online game of Runescape.

I am a lvl 15 in the game. So, I wondered if anyone here plays, knows of, or would like to play Runescape. Members world is like 5 dollars (I think its monthly) and Free is, well, free.

Yeah, although Runescape is awfully basic, it is awfully popular, and awfully adictive, I must say, even though it sucks more than a baby and a pacifier.

I have an account that I made 7 or 8 years ago and I've played it on and off, I'm lvl 75ish and I was a member for one month to keep a friend happy. I've heard people say that they've got to 70 in a month or so which is pretty crazy, you'd have to be playing for about 4 hours a day I rekon. (For those who don't know, the max lvl is 134, it used to be 126 a few months ago.)
The game isn't that bad and not all that basic, it's a free, mostly fun, complex, quite old online game which means there is lots of people playing it so it's very hard to put in big updates and they need to test new stuff a heap.

My account name is Voivode Urdo, level 88. Quit playing a couple of months ago because Jagex started really messing the game up with less-than-improving updates. It's just not the same game anymore. You can't even hunt other people in the wilderness anymore for "security reasons". I know they had no choice for the December 10th update, the Chinese farmers would have ruined the game even worse otherwise, but still.

may i ask what updates you are talking about, did they bring out more band aid solution hack job updates while i was off rs? as far as i heard they had stopped making those kind of updates as they have made enough?

Well recently they've removed the ability to attack and kill players in the wilderness, now the duel arena is free to play (which I think is good) but the only way to kill people is in the bounty hunter or clan wars minigame.

In bounty hunter you are assigned a player to kill in a large arena filled with people all with a player they must kill, you can kill anyone you want to and there is certain scores and rewards I think.

In clan wars with the new update of clans the players in your clan may want to fight the players of another and any amount of people and lvls may fight any other if they are in the two clans that are fighting.

Also you may only trade up to 3000gp around an item's supposed worth and the amount you use stacks until it resets after 10mins, if you have enough quest points you may have more allowances. This was mainly to stop real world trading.

Another radical change is the Grand Exchange (GE) in which players can auction off their items to other players on any world. They offer an item and name a price close to which those items are selling for and the 'clerks' (npcs) will find a player with an offer for that item. The prices fluctuate and moderators monitor the prices and update them which also changes the trading prices. Even so the prices will never be perfect such as if someone went mining but forgot a pick the other players mining wouldn't want to sell one to the player unless it was for a good price which generally can't be done unless it is a relatively cheap item. It's a little like e-bay.

i guess runescape is an alternative if you dont have money to buy games... although nowdays you dont have to. ppl just use torrents and limewire and whatnot and download ISO for free (sometimes. may be in other formats..) then you look on crack sites (sorry no drugs ) and find a serial key/crack (for those games that need them, like RoN and The Sims).

as for games that need regular subscriptions, like WoW, you might have a problem... although there are free private servers out there. (i got WoW and TBC expansion entirely for free and play WoW for free lol)

so if you can 'obtain' games for free do we need 'free' variants of everything? (or maybe an expansive variant of a free game?)

who would rather be safe and stay away from burning copyrighted (lol) discs/download of net?

It's people like you who cause game companies to stray from PCs to consoles. Not that I care personally, cause I only play games on consoles anyway, but you should know that you're not "playing games for free", you're playing games you have not bought a right to play illegally, and when enough people does this, the game companies lose interest in attempting to make money off of selling games.

I realize that you're just a little kid still, who might be too poor to actually afford games, and I suppose you can try to rationalize downloading by that, but you should still not "brag" about how you acquire stuff illegally.

I play It im member and lvl 81 but I dont ike combat training... so Ive done many quests and quite high skills

Well, I went and signed up for a free account and
ended up playing for a few hours. But I spent most
of my time running so that I wouldn't be attacked
by the level 100+ players and that really ruined
it for me.
I wanted to focus on my quests and really explore
everything but other people mess with you.
Also, it sucks that I lost all my stuff when
I died. Really sucks.

Well, you do lose all your stuff when you die, but only if you dont have someone repair your gravestone until you get to it. And now, the only way for stronger characters to attack you is if you are in a duel arena.

Pillbug first there werent gravestones there was a wilderniss where players could attack you but Jagex (makers) removed it because real world trading so selling your rs stuff for real money
now there is bounty hunter where that is impossible because of the little space to risky. In the duel arena you dont loose stuff

I know you said that stronger players can only attack
you in a duel arena but that was not happening for me
and I only just signed up recently.

if you stay away from pking areas such a bounty hunter & duel arena you shouldnt get killed unless you do something stupid like attack a guard when you are a level 3, or run into a highway man when you are a really low level, if you practice on cows, chickens & rock crabs (rock crabs are only safe when level 20) you should be alright & everyone please remember to be nice to your friendly neighborhood pmods, jmods & fmods. we may steal & eat your shoes but we arent big & nasty people like everyone thinks we are.

pheonix, i'm sure there are things you are unsure of. no, it wasnt an attempt at sarcasm, i dont usually be sarcastic. people in my locality might call it a different name than what people in your locality might call it, or maybe my friends and their friends all have similar ideas. just because someone is unsure doesnt make them dumb

ok i know some people like having an extremely busy WoW server, but i like to play a nice quiet server (although i wish it were more active sometimes...) and its free...

I've been playing WoW on my friends account for a little over a year and I'm lvl 66, I don't play that much and I often get bored so I leave it for a while or make a new character. I'm a protection dwarf paladin called Ultadinn on the Nagrand server and I have bad stuff because I don't waste money on the auction house for items that expire after about 2 levels and I play to have fun, not to get to the highest level with the best stuff.

I love changing chars. (if i must level with 1 char, i will get bored) so all levels are allrond 21-37.

yeah dude, this is the best game out there. i am level 9999 and have all bis adamant bullshit. oh, and if you aren't a paid member and on my level, don't bother adding me because i won't carry your ass through raids, you ducking casual baddie. however, i might consider carrying you if you pay me a lot of gold. of course, this is all so that i can continue to feel like i'm the best.
